I’m a rocker with the eyes of the world on me. Waiting for my triumph or my downfall…just waiting.
Most of my life is in my hands. My destiny? That’s another story. My destiny isn’t as debt free.
My band, Phoenix Rising, arrives in Houston to cut a new album. Before we perform our first concert in the city and I choose my groupies of the night, I’m thrust into debauchery. Sleeping with a gorgeous woman twenty years older than me has its perks, especially when her husband orchestrated the encounter and eagerly watches. To me, performing is performing. If a man wants to share his wife, who am I to stop him?
Unfortunately for me, I don’t make a clean getaway as I leave the McCall mansion. Georgie, their sixteen-year-old daughter, is in the midst of her own intrigue, sneaking home in the middle of the night after an evening of drugs and sex with her older brother’s best friend. In her, I see me. She’s lost and drifting. Her hedonistic parents insist she’s old enough to make her own decisions. Instead of time and love, they give her money and things.
I’m a twenty-five-year old international superstar and I know better. I’m cocky and arrogant. I know it so I own it. Somehow, I’ve always bested the fates. I have all to lose—my reputation, my career, and my freedom. Her mother’s jealousy forces my hand and I take Georgie on the tour.
This is our story and our secret relationship and the destruction of my life. You know the adage about secrets? Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead. Wise words from a wise man. If only I had listened. Secrets have a way of revealing themselves in the harshest way.
Describe your personality in three words………
friendly, humorous, caring
Describe your writing style in three words…….
exploratory, uninhibited, character-driven
Which chapter is your favourite (that you've wrote) and why?
I have a favorite chapter from each book, but I think the chapter where Christopher finds Meggie in the graveyard in Misjudged and where Meggie opens up to Christopher about why she cuts herself in Misappropriate are tied for first place. It shows what it means to not only be lovers, but friends, too. That’s what Christopher and Meggie are, each other’s best friend.
What has been your toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been your best compliment?
One of the toughest criticisms has been when I’m told one of my stories don’t make sense.
Best compliment was when I was told one of my books has been read several times because the reader identified the heroine and it helped her (the reader) to feel as if someone actually understood her struggles. That really touched me and it has also stuck with me.
Is there a message in novel/novels that you want your readers to grasp?
What you see isn’t all that meets the eye.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Don’t give up. Carve out time every day to write. Finish your first draft before you go back and re-read. Don’t get caught up in “what-ifs”. It’s fun to explore different scenarios, but you have to settle on the best course for your characters. Otherwise, you’ll never get to the end.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life , whom would like to play the lead role? Crickets are rolling in my head at this question, lol.
If you were a superhero, what would you want your powers to be?
If you could meet one of your own characters who would it be and why?
It’s a toss-up between Christopher, Mortician, and Sloane. Christopher because he is straight-forward and tells it like it is. Mortician because he offers very good advice. Sloane because he is intensely protective.
Most embarrassing moment?
When I was asked to give a church history. When I came upon the word Baptist, I said bastard. Worse moment ever.
What’s your idea of happiness?
Happiness, to me, is having the ability to accept what you have to accept, change whatever you can, and learn from your mistakes. When you know better, you do better.
What's your greatest fear?
Being alone and complete darkness. That’s so bad I have to sleep with a light on at night.
What question have you always wanted to be asked?
What would you like to be remembered for? How would you answer it? I’d like to be remembered as someone who was considerate of others. Anger fuels anger, but a little kindness goes a long way.
Have you got any nicknames?
Kat and Kitty Kat.
Um…drinks, lol. Ginger Ale, Coca Cola, Harp’s Lager, Mumm’s Champagne, Chivas Regal, Crown Royal, Jungle Juice.
Hard or Soft?
Early bird or Night owl?
Coffee and Tea?
Right handed or Left handed?
Cake or Cookies?
Sub or Dom?
